I was commissioned by the Brixton Housing Co-operative to run weekly workshops with a small group of its members to create a banner that would be displayed in their community space and also taken on demos.
It was a very collaborative process from start to finish. The members who attended made most of the design decisions and played a major part in the construction of the piece. The mural on the Co-op building’s external wall and a collage/sketch by Bernard Hart provided a starting point for the Banner’s design. Each decision was carefully decided, from the colours of the letters to the shade of blue for the border.
